Tubectomy

Tubectomy or Tubal Sterilization is a female sterilization procedure. This is a major surgical procedure which refers to blocking of the female fallopian tubes. Eventually, this restricts the eggs from reaching uterus to implant. Fallopian tubes are roughly 10 cm long & are attached to either sides of the uterus. The tubes are cut open during tubectomy operation & tied or clipped at a particular point. This is a permanent procedure of birth control for women wanting to avoid pregnancy or consecutive child birth.
Tubectomy can be performed at any given point of time. However, women who do not want to undergo pregnancy are most likely to undergo this treatment. This is the type of female sterilization which is considered to be permanent & most effective. The patient is recommended to undergo x-rays & a number of tests before undergoing the operation alongside a thorough examination of medical history so that there are no complications.

Tubectomy is not a safe birth control option for women having medical history of lung problems, heart ailments, abdominal surgeries or others who show traces of complications due to anesthesia. There also are some precautionary guidelines which patients should follow after tubectomy operation. The patient should visit the doctor for a thorough checkup after this day care surgery & take the prescribed antibiotics & medications so as to avoid infection & complications.
One should immediately consult the doctor in case of bleeding from the incision, pain in abdomen, high temperature or any such instance. It is also advised to refrain from sexual intercourse for at least 7 days following tubectomy surgery.
